Bassist, Vocalist and Composer Devon Gates

Recently named one of The New York City Jazz Record’s 2024 Up and Comers of the Year, Devon Gates is a bassist, vocalist, and award-winning composer from Atlanta, now based in Brooklyn. Her music blends deep groove, storytelling, and lyricism, drawing from her studies in anthropology and jazz performance at Harvard and Berklee. Devon has shared the stage with Terri Lyne Carrington, Vijay Iyer, Jen Shyu, Fay Victor, Nicole Mitchell, Susie Ibarra, Sara Serpa, and more, and has performed at venues including Dizzy’s Club at Lincoln Center, The Jazz Gallery, the Kennedy Center, Monterey Jazz Festival, London Jazz Festival, and SFJazz.
